It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Harold Cohen, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Joseph passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, at the age of 91. 

Born in 1933, Joseph Harold Cohen was known for his intelligence and dedication to helping others. He graduated from New York University and went on to earn his medical degree from the Chicago Medical School. As a family doctor in Roslyn, New York, he cared for many families with skill and compassion, earning the respect of his patients and colleagues alike. After decades of service, he and his wife retired to Florida, where he embraced an active life of travel, golf, playing cards and bridge, and cultivating a love for orchids.

“Harold,” as his wife Rhoda affectionately called him, shared a remarkable partnership with her. Married for 70 years, they built a life centered on family and mutual support. Their enduring relationship was an example of love and commitment. 

Joseph was a devoted father to four children, a proud grandfather to five grandchildren, and a loving great-grandfather to two. He treasured time spent with his family and was a steady source of encouragement and guidance throughout his life. 

Joseph was a man of generosity and integrity who connected easily with others, whether through his medical practice or personal relationships. He very much looked forward to the summer months when he could sit in the backyard to enjoy the sun after a day’s work.  He intentionally bought a home that faced West to achieve this purpose, and, of course, to enjoy the tomatoes his patients would bring him, his favorite thing to eat.  Oh yeah, don’t forget the tuna fish.  His kindness and empathy left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
