In Loving Memory of an Incredible Woman and Friend

On Saturday, August 3^rd, 2024, we lost an incredible woman, friend, aunt, and great-aunt. Debra Ruth Frankle sadly died at the age of 87, after kicking cancer’s butt for the 4th time but succumbing to other frailties. She was extremely brave throughout her life; she worked for Martin Luther King Jr. in the 60s supporting voting rights and racial equality and was on hand during the March from Selma to Montgomery.

Debra lived in several cities and left behind friends in San Francisco, New York, New Orleans, and Chicago. She settled in Broward County Florida, worked as a paralegal, and volunteered at local organizations. She was working from home up to 20 hours a week, before her illness

Debra loved her family, including her nephew Burt and his wife Carolyn, her niece Susie and her husband Jimmy, and especially her beloved Zachary and Ashley. She loved those kids and was so proud of them, always sharing their accomplishments. Debra also loved and included in her family Susie’s rescue horses – Hope and Glory, sweet shelter dog Snickers, and her wonderful cat Ollie.

Deb was a “proud childless cat lady” and regretted missing out on the upcoming election. She was so smart, always reading challenging books, and was a great game competitor. Her family and countless friends will miss her tremendously. In her own words, Debra “tried to do her best, be a good friend, and play a small role in helping craft a better society”.  Her green burial is at the South Florida Jewish Cemetery.
