“You Shall Love Your Neighbor As Yourself” (Leviticus 19:18)
The yahrzeit, or anniversary of a loved one's passing, is observed on the date of death on the Hebrew calendar. It is a time to honor the person and their passing.
There are many common customs for Jews to celebrate a loved one's yahrzeit, such as remembering the person, lighting memorial candles/lamps at home, reciting the Kaddish Prayer in a synagogue, donating to charity in the loved one's name and visiting the grave.
