Mitchell Steven Wachtel passed away on November 17th, 2024.

He was born on May 22, 1959, in Brooklyn, NY to Herbert and Lenore Wachtel. He married June Wagner in 1984. They were married for 40 years.

Dr. Wachtel received his undergraduate degree at Columbia University, his medical degree at the University of Miami, and his pathology residency at New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston. In addition, he completed fellowships at the Sloan Kettering in New York City. He worked in private and academic practice, becoming a full, tenured professor at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. He retired in February 2020, after 16 years of academic service, and he and his wife returned to Boca Raton, FL where they both grew up.

He devoted his time then to artistic pursuits, creating beautiful, abstract photographic images. He had exhibits in Basel, Switzerland, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Punte del Este, Uruguay, Nice, France, Monaco, and Las Vegas. He also created images for the nursing stations at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. All his images express particular musical compositions. He loved opera, classical music, rock and roll, jazz, and blues. He and his wife loved to travel, read, hike, and enjoy nature on the Florida coasts and in the Everglades.

He is survived by his wife June of Boca Raton, FL, his mother, Lenore Wachtel of Boca Raton, FL, his sisters Stacy Wachtel of Orlando, FL, Janice Wachtel of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, his brother, Edward Wachtel of New York City, and their spouses. He is also survived by six beloved nieces and nephews, Brian Needles, Jeanine Rosen, Rachel, Justin, Nicole Walton, and Jessica Wachtel.
