Obituary
Bernard D. Lipsitz (Bernie), 90, of Boca Raton, FL, formerly of East Brunswick, NJ, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, March 9, 2023. Bernie was born on August 25, 1932, to Louis and Leah (Coplan) Lipsitz in Baltimore, MD.
After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School class of 1954, Bernie served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. In his senior year of college, Bernie met the love of his life, Roberta (Bobbie) Josepovitz and they married in 1955, going on to have three wonderful children, Michelle (Mark) Schneider, Judie (Eric) Smith, and Jeffrey (Ally Koffman) Lipsitz. While raising his family, he subsequently graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1964.
After moving to Boca Raton in 1990, Bernie became involved in the Jewish community, serving on the Board of Solomon Schecter Day School. Bernie was a longtime member of B’nai Torah Congregation, where he was proud to serve on its Board and as its President.
In addition to his wife and children, Zayde Bernie is survived by his eleven adoring grandchildren, Steven (Lindsey) Schneider, Andrew (Jaclyn) Schneider, Scott (Lauren) Schneider, Anna (Ben) Detzner, Michael (Marisa) Smith, Alexis (Brad) Robinson, Sarah (Adam) Freedman, Rachel Lipsitz and Sydney Lipsitz, Cameron Koffman, and Julia Koffman. Bernie was cherished by 11 great-grandchildren, Eliana, Samuel, Riley, Maxwell, Emmett, Logan, Olivia, Harper, Tyler, Noah, and Isabel. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Arthur (Diana) Jay, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family is forever grateful to Orlando Cousley and Richard Fenton for their loving care over the last two years.
Throughout his life, Bernie led by example, showing his family and friends how to live with integrity, how to be a devoted spouse, a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and how to be a good friend. Bernie treasured his family and passed on a beautiful legacy of love for family and Judaism to them.
