“You Shall Love Your Neighbor As Yourself” (Leviticus 19:18)

Michael Blackman

Obituary

Mike Blackman passed away peacefully on November 19, 2022, wrapped in love by his family following a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer.

Mike was born on December 6th, 1944, as the youngest son of Mollie & Philip Blackman in Brooklyn, NY where he spent his early years.  He studied computer engineering in college, and it was during this time that Mike met Judy, his true love and soulmate.  They were married for almost 54 years and were blessed with two children, Seth & Sheri, and three grandchildren, Haley, Alexis, and Dylan.

After college, Mike joined IBM and worked there for over 40 years until his retirement in 2005.  While living in New York, he was an active member of the Reform Temple of Suffern, serving as the President of the Congregation and on various committees.  He was also a board member of the North Rockland Soccer Association where he coached both kids’ soccer teams.

In 2003, Mike and Judy moved to Florida.  It was here that he began the ‘next chapter’ of his life, one that would forever define his legacy and our memory of him.  In 2005, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Leukemia, which he was fortunate to overcome, and, from there, went on to volunteer countless hours and efforts to raise awareness and funds to end all blood cancers. In addition, he was very active at Temple Beth El, serving in various leadership roles. The world is a better place because Mike Blackman was a part of it.  He will live forever in our hearts and memories.  Memorial donations may be made to Temple Beth El or his Leukemia and Lymphoma Society team page.
