Obituary

Sonya “Sunnie” Robbins was born in Miami, Florida on July 29, 1931. Sunnie graduated from Miami High and attended the University of Miami. Sunnie passed away on July 23, 2022, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Sunnie was briefly married to Harris Glantz and later to the love of her life, Alex Robbins, from August 1968 until his death in Gainesville Florida.

Sunnie became a sorority house mother in 1986 for Alpha Epsilon Phi at the University of Florida after Alex passed away. She was “Aunt Sunnie” to thousands of young women and an AEPhi Sister in the Pledge Class 1989.

Sunnie is survived by daughters Rachelle (Schelle) Wood and Mindy Sue Mills.

She is also survived by her sister, Carol A Roberts, and brothers Sandy Klein and Paul Klein. She is survived by her grandchildren Brad Wood, David Waller, Robin Dietrich, and Danielle Waller, and her great-grandchildren, Kendall Dietrich, Avery Dietrich, Ayla Wood, and Kellen Wood.

Sunnie was a professional model, ballet, and tap instructor, taught art, ballet, tap, jazz, and kindergarten, and ran yearlong camps for many years for the City of Coral Gables. She was an avid sailor and artist her entire life. Sunnie taught art to many people while she lived in Gainesville from 1968 until she relocated to Palm Beach County in 2008.
